Byte Defined
Originally defined as unit of information processed as one by a digital unit and is often used as such in audio devices, however in modern usage especially when it comes to computers it is almost always used to represent 8 bits regardless of the number of bits processed and hence post 1980 units of bits processed at once have usually been referred to as words.
