Driver Defined
"Driver" always refers to a single naked speaker (e.g. a woofer or a tweeter) rather than an ensemble of drivers, enclosure, and crossover network, which is a loudspeaker. The primary parts of a driver are (1) the cone, which moves the air, and (2) the voice coil and magnet, which moves the cone. See a cut-away drawing of a driver (8.2 kb). Sometimes "loudspeaker" is used to mean "driver."
